The book begins with 14 essays by major British scholars on aspects of urban life, from the Coronation of George IV to the rise of popular radicalism in political and economic thought. London nourished a wide variety of aspirations; its art, theater, and economic achievements in this 40-year span were notable. 11" x 5.5" folded mailer, 11" x 16.5" open. Luncheon menu features complete special luncheons, a la carte, sandwiches, and cocktails, wine, and beer. Cover features quotes from nine newspapers, including Walter Winchell/Mirror; Earl Wilson/Post, and Ed Sullivan/News. Jack Dempsey's Broadway Restaurant at 49th-50th St on Broadway. William Harrison "Jack" Dempsey (1895-1983) held the world heavyweight title between 1919 and 1926. From 1935-1974, he ran Jack Dempsey's Broadway Restaurant in New York City's Times Square, on the site of the old car barn across from Madison Square Garden. Most nights for those nearly forty years would find the proprietor on hand to greet guests, sign autographs, pose for pictures, and hold court.
