Three folio volumes, including 12-pp Prospectus (with order form), plus one quarto volume - The Life of Sir Edwin Lutyens by Christopher Hussey. 61, 52, 59 pp plus 110, 121, 107 plates of measured drawings & 271, 277, 173 b/w photographs. Fourth volume: xxii, 602 pp; 178 b/w plates. Publisher's green cloth with dustjackets, except The Life of Lutyens lacks a jacket. Near Fine/VG, a clean set with no internal marks, bindings tight; Vol. 1 jacket has scattered foxing with overall soiling & toned spine, top & bottom edge reinforced with archival tape; Vol. 2 jacket has similar issues as Vol. 1 but to a lesser extent; Vol. 3 jacket has toned spine, else much cleaner, with no foxing or tape reinforcement; the 4th volume has some fading on back board. These four volumes were published as a memorial to Sir Edwin Landseer Lutyens (1869-1944), the great British architect. The three folio volumes were compiled from the thousands of drawings in his office, with plans, elevations, and details of examples of his architecture. The biography volume, written by Christopher Hussey, who knew Lutyens as well as anyone, sought to capture Lutyens's remarkable personality. Rare first edition.
