Second edition. Quarto. 581 pp; 17 chromolithographs and 300 wood engravings created under the direction of M.A. Racinet; all edges gilt. Text in French. Bound in original leather-backed pebbled cloth with coat of arms of the city of Paris on cover and gilt tooling and titles on spine. VG- scattered moderate foxing throughout including the margins of several plates, but mostly in prelims, the plates are otherwise bright and clean. This book features manners and customs, literature, the sciences and arts in France from 1590 to 1700.
